September 2015

9th September 2015

During this first half term at Christ Church, all the children will be exploring and learning about Respect. Everyone at school will be investigating and trying to deepen their understanding of this core value through worship, story, music and debate.

It is essential we continue to work in collaboration with all our families to ensure they understand the high-level of expectation we place upon the value of respect. We endeavour to support our pupils to understand that these same levels of respect are expected within our local Shieldfield community as they continue to grow and mature as global citizens

Every child has a 'right' to learn. Every person should be respected!

Children’s rights are central to all aspects of life at Christ Church, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC)  is a comprehensive human rights treaty that enshrines specific children’s rights in international law. These rights define universal principles and standards for the status and treatment of children worldwide.

The CRC consists of 54 articles. A ‘child’ is defined as every human being below the age of 18. The key provisions are:

  • The right to a childhood (including protection from harm)
  • The right to be educated (including all girls and boys completing primary school)
  • The right to be healthy (including having clean water, nutritious food and medical care)
  • The right to be treated fairly (which includes changing laws and practices that discriminate against children)
  • The right to be heard (which includes considering children's views)
