Phonics

We use the Letters and Sounds phonic programme. It is taught systematically from Early Years to the end of Year 2. Some children may access the programme beyond Year 2 until they are fluent readers.

Please find below resources to support the the teaching of phonics at home. Early Years run an annual workshop for parents introducing sounds and explaining how we teach phonics in school.

A phoneme is the shortest unit of sound. So the word s a t, has 3 phonemes, s-a-t. It is important that you listen carefully to how each sound is made because it may be different from the way you model this at home.
