Staying Safe on Bonfire Night Information

With Bonfire Night coming up, here are some top tips to keep you and your family safe whilst having fun and enjoying fireworks. 
 

 Safety Tips for Fireworks:

  • Attend an organised firework display where possible.
  • Buy fireworks with a CE marking.
  • Remember, it is illegal to set off fireworks in the street, keep them in a private garden or attend an organised event. 
  • If hosting your own display, follow all safety procedures, always have a bucket of water ready. 
  • Never return to a lit firework or throw fireworks, this could cause serious harm. 
  • Wear gloves when using sparklers. 
 Safety Tips for Bonfires
  • Attend an organised event rather than risk your safety.
  • Build bonfires at least 18 meters away from buildings, trees, and fences.
  • Never use flammable liquids to start a fire.
  • Burn only clean, dry timber.
  • Keep bonfires under three meters high and ensure spectators stay at least five meters away.
  • Have a water supply (hosepipe or bucket) nearby.
  • Never leave a bonfire unattended.
  • Fully extinguish the fire before leaving
